MANTRA MIX PROJECT - A TIBET BENEFIT ALBUM

In order to commemorate the historic Kalachakra Initiation, held for the first time in the southern hemisphere, in Sydney during September 1996, 'The Dalai Lama in Australia 1996' organising committee commissioned the production of a Tibet Benetit album called Mantra Mix.

This album presents the artistry and expression of many Australian and International pertormers and, tor the first time ever on CD, the voice of His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet, intoning a special prayer for The Long Life of Buddha's Teachings.

Mantra Mix is a remarkable compilation of energy, hope and dedication.

The energy of all those who became involved in the project was given voluntarily in the hope that through the medium of music a message of hope, goodwill and compassion could be sent to the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan people.

Inspired by both the Dalai Lama's 1996 Australian visit and the on-going struggle of the Tibetans to reclaim their status as an autonomous people, free to live in peace in their own homeland, royalties from this album will initially go to supporting the Dalai Lama's Visit, and later, to the Tibetan cause through the Office of the Dalai Lama, currently located in Dharamsala, North India.

Mantra Mix would not have been possible without the inspiration which His Holiness has given to us all. The artists who have generously donated their songs to this historic compilation album have done so with great enthusiasm and commitment towards wanting to help the Dalai Lama and his endangered country. As His Holiness so sadly told us: 'basically in Tibet the current situation is that a nation with an ancient and unique cultural heritage is now actually dying!'

This album is an attempt to tell the world what is happening in Tibet. These songs combine to produce a remarkable compilation, which we hope will go a long way towards helping the Dalai Lama and his people. Each song stands out in its own right as a wonderful musical offering and we wish to thank all those concerned who helped produce this great compilation album.

Jon Breukel, Penelope Tree & Alan Hanley

COMPASSION IN EXILE

'This piece was originally written for the documentary Compassion in Exile. Like the film, the music aims to create an emotional point of view that acknowledges the courage, strength and the loneliness of the Tibetan people in their difficult struggle'.
